Cattle Close Red on Monday

Monday cattle trading came to a close with the board 25 to 45 cents weaker. August fats were $123 flat at the close of FND. The oldest long was dated March 2nd. USDA reported some light cash trade in the WCB at $124 - $125. Feeder cattle also closed red, with losses of 7 to 55 cents. August feeders were the weakest on the day. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was $156.30, back down by 25 cents, on August 6th.
Wholesale Boxed Beef prices continued the escalation through Monday, with Choice boxes $3.54 higher to $299.80. Select boxes were also $3.72 stronger to $280.81 cwt. USDA estimates Monday’s FI cattle slaughter at 119,000 head. That is 3k above last week’s start and 6,000 head above the same Monday in 2020.
