Missouri Weekly Direct Slaughter Cattle (week end 12-07-2018)

Confirmed Sales:

Week to date: 520 Last week: 0 Last Year: 240
( These prices acquired from Missouri producers )

Trading from late last Friday through Friday morning remains light,
with grid and flat prices firm to higher with no comparisons from last
week. Very muddy feeding conditions in the area and the extra feed
have producers wanting to unload cattle as soon as possible. Few early
week sales are steady with last week with a few trades between 117.00-
118.00 with the Feed Cattle Exchange selling a couple pens on Wednesday
at 117.75 and 118.00. Cattle futures continue to track for the most part
sideways and shaking off any good news. It seems traders are focusing on
market demand for the New Year with economic concerns and overall
economic market directions as the Stock Market continues on a volatile
roller-coaster ride. Slaughter is expected to be near 640K-645K for the
week as packers will push to have one last large kill before Christmas
and New Years. Boxed-beef cut-out values continue to hold together for
the most part but are starting to feel some pressure. Choice boxed-beef
on Thursday closed .59 cents lower at 212.67 with Select 1.36 higher at
198.22 compared to last Fridays close with Choice at 212.61 and select
at 198.41. The hide and offal value from a typical slaughter steer on
Thursday was estimated at 9.03 per cwt live, unchanged when compared to
Wednesdays value.
